In a statement on their website, Malaysia Airlines says it is retiring the flight number of the aircraft that crashed in Ukraine.
The airline’s Amsterdam (AMS) – Kuala Lumpur (KUL) service, MH17 flight number will be retired out of respect for the crew and passengers that died when the aircraft was shot down. The retirement takes effect on 25 July 2014.
The statement added “There are no changes to the frequency of our services and we will continue to operate daily services between Amsterdam and Kuala Lumpur. The new flight number replacing MH17 will be MH19 – AMS/KUL.”
298 people perished when Flight 17 was shot down on Thursday.
