Air Algerie flight, with over 100 passengers disappears off radar




An Air Algerie flight, with over 100 people on board, has disappeared off radar, the airline’s operator said Thursday.

Flight 5017 lost radar contact about 50 minutes after departing Ouagadougou, Burkina Faso, early Thursday. It was destined for Algiers’ Houari Boumediene Airport some four hours away.

Swiftair, a private Spanish company,which operates the MD-83 aircraft for Air Algerie said “we have lost contact with the plane.” The statement added “at this moment, emergency services and our staff are working on finding out more on this situation.”

The MD-83, is part of the McDonnell Douglas MD-80 family of twin-engine, single-aisle jets.

Air Algerie is Algeria’s national airline.
