The United States authorities have cancelled the Guyana operations of Dynamic Airways. According to that country’s Department of Transportation (DOT) ‘List of Public Charters 2014’ Dynamic Airways’ service has been listed as cancelled effective August 6.
The company had a rough start when it first landed in Guyana and has not been able to bounce back ever since. The inaugural flight to Guyana arrived and departed late, and was reported as not having clearance to land at the John F. Kennedy Airport (JFK) on its return.
Upon landing in New york, the aircraft and was escorted by security vehicles, and arriving passengers were subjected to sniffing dogs and fine-tuned searches by security personnel.
The US ground handler was blamed for a blunder which resulted in untagged bags being loaded onto the aircraft. This resulted in the termination of the ground handler’s contract. The lost of which was accompanied by lost time slots and gate position which were bundled together.
Captain Gerry Gouveia of Roraima Airways, the local handler for Dynamic Airways, told Guyana Aviation that the airline is still experiencing difficulty in finding a ground handler and is unable to operate at that US airport. He stated that the airline is still “very much committed to the Guyanese market.” So much so, that the company is eying a return to the New York/Georgetown route sometime in November.
Gouveia also added that he has taken up the personal task of ensuring that all necessary work is put in place. He is now part of Dynamic’s internal team, and together with seniors of Roriama Airways, a task force was setup specifically for the re-introduction of the airline to Guyana.
Dynamic Airways is a charter service against what is being propelled. Speaking at a cocktail ceremony on Sunday, Civil Aviation Board Chairman Hugh Denbow said that chartered companies were making passengers believe that they are scheduled flight operators. The Director of the regulatory body, Zulficar Mohamed, confirmed that Dynamic is a charter flight operator, but they are in the process of accessing their scheduled flight designation.
