British Airways offers apprentice programmes

As thousands of school leavers receive their A Level results, British Airways is keen to welcome applicants to one of its award-winning apprentice programmes.
The airline will employ more than 175 apprentices this year to its 14 apprenticeship schemes across the business, with areas ranging from engineering and operations, to IT, finance and customer service.
Since 2010, more than 600 students have begun apprenticeships, with many graduating to permanent roles with the airline.
Keith Williams, British Airways’ executive chairman, said: “Apprenticeships are a fantastic way of providing young people with a combination of on-the-job training and theoretical education. They are a great foundation for a whole range of highly skilled careers at British Airways and we are proud to offer them.”
Jessica Cloak who has recently successfully completed the British Airways Head Office Administration apprenticeship, said: “While studying for my A Levels, I decided that university was not the route for me and instead was drawn to apprenticeships as they offer a powerful combination of training and studying. I am so glad I took this option as I’m now permanently employed by the airline’s alliances team, working on projects with our airline partners and embarking on an exciting career.”
Laura Anderson, British Airways’ IT Operations Apprentice, agrees that university is not always the right choice for those completing A Levels. She said: “At college, I was pushed down the university route but I knew this wasn’t the path I wanted to take. Applying for an apprenticeship seemed like a risk at the time, but it certainly paid off and I would urge school leavers to consider this route. With an employer like British Airways there are so many opportunities available to find a career in what you want to do.”
The airline offers a number of schemes for apprentices in London, as well as at its maintenance bases in Glasgow and Cardiff. It also offers graduate programmes for university leavers. Details of apprentice opportunities can be found at ba.com/careers.
