British Airways plane catches fire at Las Vegas airport





A British Airways flight departing Las Vegas burst into flames on the runway shortly after 7 p.m. EST (2300 GMT) on Tuesday. Flight 2276, a Boeing 777 aircraft was bound for London Gatwick airport when the incident occurred.
There were 159 passengers and 13 crew members on board.
Airport officials said at least 13 people were taken to the city’s Sunrise hospital, most of them with injuries sustained while sliding down inflatable shutes during the evacuation.
The Federal Aviation Administration said the aircraft’s left engine caught fire, prompting the crew to abort the takeoff.
McCarran International Airport is a major airport in the US, handling more than 40 million passengers last year.
