Light aircraft crashes at Eteringbang

A Britten-Norman Islander, owned and operated by Roraima Airways crashed while on approach to Eteringbang a few minuted before 6 p.m. on Tuesday. The aircraft bearing registration 8R-GRA was being operated by a single pilot who was shuttling cargo between interior locations.

An official from the Guyana Civil Aviation Authority (GCAA) confirmed receiving the report of the crash. He said that the plane was piloted by Colin Martin who perished in the accident, and that no passengers were aboard.

It was reported that a pilot who was airborne in the vicinity of Eteringbang at the time witnessed the crash.

Captain Colin Martin, who would have been celebrating his fortieth on August 14, served in the Guyana Defence Force (GDF) from 1995 to 2012, retiring as a Major.
