Council President of the International Civil Aviation Organization (ICAO), Dr. Olumuyiwa Benard Aliu arrived in Guyana on Tuesday ahead of the Air Transport Meeting scheduled for November 21 to 23 at the Arthur Chung Conference Centre.
Accompanying Dr. Aliu is the Director for North American, Central American and Caribbean (NACC) Regional Office of ICAO, Mr. Melvin Cintron, both of whom were met by Director General of the Guyana Civil Aviation Authority (GCAA), Lt. Col. (Ret’d) Egbert Field.
The conference will be attended by approximately 300 delegates from around the globe, and Field said that the ICAO President’s arrival in Guyana demonstrates the importance of the meeting to Guyana and the region.
The three-day forum will also include the Third African Diaspora Conference to be held on Friday November 23 at the same venue.
Issues to be discussed at the Air Transport Meeting include Harmonizing Regional Air Transport Regulatory Framework, liberalization of air cargo, maximizing economic benefits of aviation in the region, air transport and tourism among others.
The objective of this Air Transport Meeting is to proffer practical solutions to remove existing regulatory impediments to air transport liberalization and to finance the development of quality aviation infrastructure.
