A Guyana Defence Force (GDF) Britten-Norman Islander, 8R-GMN, enroute from Mabaruma to Cheddi Jagan International Airport made an emergency landing at Bimichi after an engine failure.
Director-General of the Guyana Civil Aviation Authority (GCAA), Lt. Col. (Retd) Egbert Field confirmed the event and explained that it is standard operating procedure for pilots to make an emergency landing if one of the engines fails.
Field said technicians went to Bimichi, conducted repairs and the Britten-Norman Islander was flown back to Timehri.
That Islander that malfunctioned on Friday is one of two that had been purchased two years ago in Brazil. It was piloted by Miguel Benjamen.
