Eastern Airlines runs off taxiway in Guyana

Disabled Easter Airlines Boeing 767 at CJIA

An Eastern Airlines aircraft from New York to Guyana ran off the taxiway at Cheddi Jagan International Airport after leaving the runway. Sources from the Guyana Civil Aviation Authority confirmed that the right landing gear of the aircraft exited the pavement as it turned onto the taxiway and that the incident is not serious.

201 passengers and 10 crew members were reported to be onboard the Boeing 767 aircraft (Registration: N706KW) which was repatriating Guyanese from the United States. The incident occured around 2:30 p.m. and according to the weather report, there was light rain showers at the time.

There were no reported injuries and passengers had to disembark the plane at its stuck position and transported to the passenger terminal via buses.

216 passengers were set to leave on the outbound leg to Miami. The Civil Aviation Authority is investigating the incident.
