U.S. officials announced on Tuesday that the first official non-stop flight between Israel and the United Arab Emirates is planned for next week and will be operated by El Al. The Israeli airline will utilize its Boeing 787 Dreamliner between Tel Aviv and Abu Dhabi.
The chartered flight is expected to carry an Israeli and U.S. delegation, which includes senior White House advisor Jared Kushner. The Israeli delegation will be composed of experts in aviation, banking, space and health care.
The mission for the special trip is to start negotiations that will eventually lead to the signing of bilateral agreements which include direct commercial flights between Israel and the UAE.
It is unclear if Saudi Arabia will allow El Al to operate the flight through its airspace, otherwise, the Arabian country would have to be circum-navigated.
U.S. president Donald Trump on August 13, tweeted “HUGE breakthrough today! Historic Peace Agreement between our two GREAT friends, Israel and the United Arab Emirates!”
