Eastern Airlines passengers will soon have inflight entertainment available across the carrier’s entire fleet. Together with Eastern Airlines, AirFi announced that the wireless IFE system began deployment over the summer and will soon be fully fitted on all the airline’s 767s.
Eastern Airlines relaunched in January 2020, becoming the first scheduled carrier to be certified in the US since 2007 with a fleet of eight twin-aisle Boeing 767s. Eastern services established centers of adventure and is pioneering new routes including Miami, Mexico, Ecuador, Haiti and Guyana.
Commenting on the development, Steve Harfst, President and CEO Eastern Airlines said, “We’ve been thrilled with the AirFi speed and efficiency of the wireless IFEC rollout across our entire fleet. We selected AirFi because of the company’s outstanding reputation and market-leading position. Our first AirFi FASE aircraft was outfitted during its regular 2-day check as planned and entered into passenger revenue service in July. The eighth and final B767 will enter later next quarter. AirFi FASE has been proven on US commercial flights with its zero-touch benefits and we are very excited to put AirFi at the center of our drive to create inspiring passenger experiences and to generate new cross-platform revenue opportunities.”
Eastern Airlines have elected to also utilise numerous additional features to deliver enhanced benefits to its crew and passengers, notably:
- Fully Autonomous operation software and patented Semi-Embedded aircraft-powered dock, enabling zero-touch crew operations,
- App-free DRM content streaming of premium Hollywood content accessible on any browser to passengers’ personal devices PCI-certified onboard shopping payments for passengers, enabling new streams of ancillary revenues while simplifying crew operations, and
- Upgrade path to AirFi LEO, enabling inflight connectivity and real-time data benefits
“We heartily welcome Eastern Airlines into the AirFi family and I’m especially pleased to report the first launch with our joint venture partners, AirFi America. As we continue our focus on innovation, especially in these challenging times, I’m thrilled that the team at Eastern wants to squeeze every last feature out of the AirFi FASE system, to lower cost and complexity, while accelerating the digitalisation of operations to better serve the needs of its guests,” said Job Heimerikx, CEO AirFi.
Bill Utset, President AirFi America Inc. adds: “Firstly, a huge congratulations and thanks to the MEKCO team on completing the rapid installation of the AirFi FASE power/dock mods to the Eastern Airlines B767 fleet, which are now equipped with their new AirFi Wireless IFEC systems right on plan! I’m also delighted, as President of AirFi America, to announce that Eastern Airlines becomes our new partnership’s Client No.1!
Some great news to cheer about in such a difficult year. It’s also great news that Eastern will be deploying our latest, zero-touch AirFi FASE system variant which further reduces virus-transmission touch-points for crew and passengers during the flight.”
