Early talks with customers are focused on a single-aisle jet carrying 200 to 250 people

Boeing Co. is gauging interest again in a new commercial aircraft, according to people familiar with the matter, a move that could help it make up lost ground to rival Airbus SE as it navigates its way through the 737 MAX crisis and the coronavirus pandemic.

The plane maker has held conversations with a few customers, including airplane leasing companies, and suppliers about potential interest in a single-aisle aircraft with improved engines that could carry between 200 and 250 passengers, according to these people.
