The Guyana Civil Aviation Authority (GCAA) on Wednesday had its new board of directors installed by Minister of Public Works, Hon. Bishop Juan A. Edghill. The Director General of GCAA, Egbert Field, will return as ex-officio member as well as Lt. Col. Courtney Byrne and CEO of CJIA, Ramesh Ghir.
New to the GCAA board are Javed Shadick (Chairman), with other members being Fazad Khan, Jerome Khan, Ramesh Seebarran, Buleah Williams, Prema Roopnarine and Vladim Persaud (Ex-Officio member).
Minister Edghill said that Virgin Atlantic is among several carriers that have applied to fly to Guyana, and is hoping that the new board of directors eventually greenlight that application for the airline to begin scheduled flights to Guyana.
The Minister also said that InterCaribbean, West Jet and Fly Always have applied to serve Guyana. He noted that JetBlue, having been approved several months ago, would soon begin five weekly flight to Guyana.
Mr. Edghill also announced that two undisclosed investors have submitted proposals to build two hotels at the Cheddi Jagan International Airport.
